*I did not write all of these. I only wrote ego check and tommy.

These exercises are available as a service to the rudimental drumming community and I do not make any money off of them.

As of right now, nobody knows for sure who wrote a lot of these. If you have any info, please tell me who wrote these exercises in an email so I can credit them. It’s currently suspected that these are a mixture of Murray Gusseck’s and Tom Float’s works, Murray credited for Chuckie & Suzie and Tom credited for inventing the concept of grids and timing exercises, the last two regarded as the “scales” of drumming / rhythms. We may never know who originally coined essential concepts such as 8s or double beat, and it’s possible some of these came from the drumset / concert / other / unknown / lost to time - community.

The variations you see here on many of the conceptual exercises are a combination of traditional rudimental standards & best practices with some liberties taken by myself to customize and / or expand on the specific variation, if applicable. I laid these exercises out as “singles,” “doubles,” “single-doubles” (puhduhduhs & paradiddles), and flams. These four skillsets are your bread and butter. Ego check is just something fun to wake up the different muscles and get the hands moving beforehand. Tommy is a spree format you can stick any rudiment on, and I’ve laid out a few different variations to get you started. Try some more!

One more thing - you may see some different variations of the same / similarly named exercises on your rudimental journey, please heed my warning that these aren’t the only versions out there. Always double check every nook and cranny of the audition packet of the group you’re trying out for, you’d hate to show up having learned a slightly different version.

Good luck out there, and I hope you get what you’re looking for out of rudimental drumming, whatever that may be.
